THE BATTLE OF HAIR REMOVAL - IPL VS SHR

What is IPL ?

Intense Pulse Light or more commonly known as IPL uses a single intense pulse of energy to target melanin and hair follicles. Light energy is release in multiple wavelengths and is converted to heat energy to destroy hair follicles making it ideal for darker hair strands. Unfortunately, IPL is not suitable for those with darker skin tones as there is more melanin present in darker skin tones which can be more painful & the risk for burns are higher.

What is SHR?

Super Laser Hair Removal or SHR for short uses low fluence repetitive laser pulses to target susceptible hair follicles. During the treatment, the energy from the hand-piece travels harmlessly through the epidermis and dermis until it strikes the hair follicle, which contains a dense, melanin-rich hair shaft and bulb. The coloured melanin absorbs the light and rises quickly in temperature, destroying the hair-producing cells surrounding the follicle. The concurrent contact cooling during the SHR treatment makes it suitable for all skin tones and makes the hair removal experience more comfortable than IPL.
